Chenab Bridge: Then and Now of world’s highest bridge

A social media post by the Ministry of Railways, GOI, said “Inch by inch, traversed the enormous Chenab!” This social media post was about the grand structure we now know as the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Railways completes 170 years of service, and it has managed to get several impressive feathers in its proverbial cap.
The Chenab Bridge is most definitely one of the most impressive ones. The social media post by the Ministry of Railways showcases the immense transformation of the entire project from the year of its inception, that is, 2003, till the present date
The Chenab Bridge, with a lifespan of 120 years, is scheduled to go operational by 2024. Currently, it is the highest rail bridge in the world!
The construction of the world’s highest rail bridge was anything but smooth. Standing at a height of 359 meters (1,178 feet) above the Chenab River, the bridge is a part of the Jammu-Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project. The bridge spans a length of 1,315 meters (4,314 feet) and has been designed to withstand high seismic activity, extreme temperatures, and strong winds.
The construction of the Chenab Bridge was a challenging task due to the difficult terrain and weather conditions in the region. However, with the use of advanced engineering and construction techniques, the bridge has now been successfully built, and is close to completion.
