Coming soon – India’s first cable-stayed Anji Khad Bridge joining the UTs Jammu and Kashmir
If reports are to go by, India will soon get its very first cable-stayed railway bridge. As per the railway ministry officials, Anji Khad Bridge will be ready and operational by May 2023.Why are we excited about this? That’s because the Anji Khad Bridge will, for the first time, connect the Union Territory of Kashmir with the rest of the country by train. Not only that, the bridge will also connect the two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir.
This new bridge is being dubbed as an engineering marvel as it is one of the biggest railway projects on top of a mountain. The 725m bridge is held approximately 331m above the Anji River by a total of 96 cables. Though not the entire bridge is cable-stayed, a whopping 473 m of the bridge is. The Anji Khad Bridge is located approximately 80 kms from the Union Territory of Jammu.
That’s not all, a lot of expertise has gone into the construction of the bridge, which is also a part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Line. The bridge has been designed in such a way that it will be able to withstand all kinds of high-altitude weather conditions.
It’s interesting that the inspiration, design and the technology for this bridge has been taken from the very famous Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
Though the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Line will be ready only by February 2024, the Anji Khad Railway Bridge will be here soon. It will, for sure, open up several new travel experiences for travelers to the regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
