You can soon reach Kedarnath via ropeway from Sonprayag

If reports are to go by, the 13-km long Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway project will cost nearly INR 1200 crore. Currently, pilgrims get to visit the Himalayan shrine via helicopter service.
Although the state wildlife board had already given its nod to these projects in June, the final clearance was awaited from the NBWL, as the environmentalists have been strongly opposing such a move in the ecologically fragile Himalayan region.
The board made the final decision during its 70th standing committee meeting, chaired by Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav, along with other decisions that were also taken by the apex committee of the NBWL.
Yadav after the meeting stated that the meeting deliberated on proposals forwarded by states and UTs on use of lands in protected areas and eco-sensitive zones for drinking water supply, building of telecom towers, construction of bridle track and installation of ropeways for ease of pilgrims in tough terrains.
Referring to the ropeway decision, the Minister noted that the committee recommended construction to facilitate travel of thousands of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Dham during the Kedarnath Yatra.
