Museum of ice cream latest attraction as part of Singapore tourism
Tourist visa and immigration process for entry has been eased for the benefit of travellers who can now easily fly into the island nation and if they are double vaccinated they will not face any restrictions.Speaking to media persons recently in Bengaluru, Renjie Wong, Area Director (India, South Asia & Middle East), Singapore Tourism Board said that the Museum of Ice Cream opened last year will be a mind-blowing experience. “The Ice Cream museum is a new attraction post Covid for tourists to Singapore and it will be a uniquely pleasant experience not only for the kids but for adults as well,” Wong added.
Singapore with one of the strictest Covid guidelines in the globe was shut for Indians till April 2022. But with the introduction of a vaccinated travel lanes from April 1, fully vaccinated passengers were permitted to enter Singapore and transit through the country.
“From January to June, Singapore has welcomed nearly 2.19 lakh visitors from India, mainly tourists. Indians formed the second largest numbers of visitors behind Indonesia this year. This year we expect close to four million visitors to Singapore from across the globe,” said GB Srithar, Regional Director (India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa), Singapore Tourism Board. In 2019, a total of 1.41 million Indians toured Singapore including 1.50 lakh people flying in exclusively to travel in cruise liners before the Covid crisis shut down tourism and travel across the globe.
Srithar further said that the South Indian cities mainly Bengaluru is a big source for tourism to Singapore mainly with many youngsters travelling to the country on leisure and also for destination weddings.
According to the Singapore Tourism board representatives, the national carrier of the country, Singapore Airlines, has returned to 75 per cent of its pre-Covid levels with 14 flights from India. On the visa front, Singapore is issuing tourist visas through authorised agents in India within five working days and the physical entry form for immigration for people landing in Singapore has been alternated with an online form which can be filled in three days prior to travel on the country’s official portal, sources said.
Even though Singapore has lifted most Covid guidelines for travellers and permits fully vaccinated passengers without need to quarantine or a predeparture RT-PCR tests, the country still enforces a bans on people who had taken the Corbevax, an Indian-made Covid vaccine that is being administered by India to its citizens between the age groups of 12 to 14 years from March 16.
Many children who had booked holidays to Singapore have been denied boarding at Indian airports on Singapore-bound flights after being found double vaccinated with Corbevax. Singapore tourism sources said the rule could be reversed once the WHO approves the vaccine and till then those who have taken Corbevax will be considered as non-vaccinated.
