Druk Air to resume flights to Guwahati from September 3

Bhutan’s national airline, Druk Air, which was the only international carrier operating flights to Guwahati at the time of the outbreak of the pandemic, will resume operations connecting Paro (Bhutan) and Singapore from September 3, officials at the Guwahati airport, said. The airline suspended operations through Guwahati on March 20, 2020.
Even as efforts are on to connect five more international destinations with Assam under the international Udaan scheme, aviation industry sources said the Druk Air operation is going to be a landmark. “We are hopeful that many passengers from eastern India will choose this route.
The flight will travel through Guwahati two days a week,” said Utpal Baruah, chief airport officer at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, when contacted. The Airbus-319 to be deployed in the operation will have over 100-seat capacity.
He informed that as per the initial plan, the flight will leave for Singapore’s Changi Airport on Saturday and return on Sunday. Baruah said the resumption of the Druk Air flight will brighten the prospects of giving more commercial air connectivity to the northeast with ASEAN countries.
The Assam government is working on making five international routes operational, including those with the three neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar.
“Connecting Paro and Singapore will not only benefit Guwahati airport but give commercial feasibility to introduce other international airlines from here. Our ultimate goal is that people from Kolkata, Bhubaneswar and Patna should also have a convenient route to the East through the northeast,” Baruah said.
He added that the Indo-Thai ground handling agency will handle the aircraft movement and requisite approval has been given to the opening of the counter for Druk Air passengers.
