Singapore receives 2.2 lakh Indian visitors in first half of 2022
Singapore has been open to all fully vaccinated visitors since April 2022, with no testing or quarantine requirement for travellers. While India has emerged as the second largest visitor source market for Singapore from January 1, 2022, to June 30, 2022. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said that the popular destination received over 219,000 Indian visitors, including from key metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru.Sharing more details, GB Srithar, Regional Director- Regional Director, India, Middle East, South Asia & Africa, Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in conversation with ETTravelWorld said that this bounce-back in visitor arrivals from India represents a significant 13-fold year-on-year growth, thanks to Singapore’s popularity as a tourism destination for Indian travellers, and the strong support of its travel trade partners.
“Singapore has seen a strong upsurge in demand from both the leisure and MICE segments since the pandemic, driven in no small part by the plethora of new, undiscovered, transformed experiences that Singapore offers. Cruising has also gained popularity again with more cruising options now available for Indian cruise holidaymakers. It is heartening to see that Resort World Cruises saw more than 22,000 cabins being booked from India alone within three weeks of launching the packages, suggesting the strong demand for cruising from India,” mentioned Srithar.
Pre-Covid recovery by 2024
Expressing optimism, Srithar mentioned that India has always been an important source market for Singapore before the pandemic, with Indian visitor arrivals having crossed the one-million mark since 2016. After a good first half in 2022, he mentioned that the tourism board is buoyant about receiving an equally positive response in the second half of 2022 as well.
Srithar further anticipated that Singapore could recover to pre-Covid visitors numbers by end of 2024. “In this time of international tourism recovery and the booming Indian outbound travel market, we are encouraged by the extremely robust demand of Indian travellers visiting Singapore once again. We are confident in continuing to bring Indian travellers in good numbers to Singapore, we are optimistic of recovery to pre-covid numbers by end of 2024,” Srithar stated.
Roadshows and travel trade activities
This year, Singapore Tourism Board is focusing on bringing Singapore closer to the hearts and minds of the Indian travellers, promoting ‘Destination Singapore’ through creative consumer outreach activations, and deepening our trade partnerships. Srithar mentioned that August is going to be a busy month for them as they plan a five-city roadshow in key source cities across India.
“In August, we will be reaching out to our travel partner-friends as part of our Deeping Connections, Achieving Together roadshow in five key source cities across India – Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Pune, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. STB will also host SingapoRemagine Global Conversations event (SRI GC), which is a series of virtual B2B thought-leadership forums to lead conversations and facilitate the exchange of ideas amongst global stakeholders on how travellers can reimagine travel for Singapore and the world. The event will be conducted on August 17, at Taj Santa Cruz Mumbai.
