PM Narendra Modi flags off new Vande Bharat Express Trains in Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated three new Vande Bharat Express trains. The virtual flag-off ceremony took place at 12:30 pm. The newly launched trains will operate on the Meerut-Lucknow, Madurai-Bengaluru, and Chennai-Nagercoil routes, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable travel experience.
The Vande Bharat Express between Meerut City and Lucknow is set to reduce travel time by approximately one hour, compared to the fastest current service on this route. This improvement is anticipated to enhance religious tourism, providing quicker access to pilgrimage sites such as the Digambar Jain Temple Hastinapur, Mansa Devi Mandir, and Surajkund Temple, among others.
In Tamil Nadu, the Chennai Egmore-Nagercoil Vande Bharat Express will slash more than two hours off the journey between the two cities. Covering 726 kilometers, this train will serve 12 districts, including major hubs like Madurai, Tirunelveli, and Chennai. This service is expected to be particularly beneficial for pilgrims visiting the Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai and the Kumari Amman Temple in Kanyakumari.
The Madurai-Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express, connecting Tamil Nadu’s bustling temple city with Karnataka’s cosmopolitan capital, will reduce travel time by around one hour and 30 minutes. This service is aimed at facilitating travel for businessmen, students, and working professionals commuting between these key cities.
There are now over 100 Vande Bharat Express trains across the country. Introduced on February 15, 2019, under the 'Make in India' initiative, the Vande Bharat trains have rapidly become symbols of India's aspirations for high-speed, luxurious rail travel. These trains now extend connectivity to over 280 districts nationwide, transforming the travel experience for millions.
The Vande Bharat trains are equipped with world-class amenities, featuring advanced safety technologies, including the Kavach system, 360-degree rotating chairs, Divyangjan-friendly toilets, and integrated Braille signages. These features, combined with the trains' impressive speed and comfort, are expected to set new standards for rail travel in India.
Bookings for the new trains are now open, with regular services set to commence from September 2, 2024. With these additions, the Vande Bharat Express continues to reshape the landscape of Indian railways, bringing faster, more comfortable, and safer travel to all passengers.
