Now You Won’t Have To Wait A Lot At Mumbai Airport; Here’s Why
Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has undergone a significant transformation, making air travel a breeze for passengers. Long gone are the days of lengthy queues and frustrating waits. The airport has doubled its egate capacity, boasting the highest number of such gates in India!
According to reports, this move has slashed entry processing times to under a minute, significantly enhancing the passenger experience. Previously, passengers faced delays at kerbside (landside) entry points. Now, with 68 e-gates operational across Terminals 1 and 2, the airport can handle a much larger volume of passengers efficiently. This will enhance the CSMIA’s processing capacity to 7,440
passengers per hour at Terminal 2 and 2,160 at Terminal 1.
The new e-gates are a boon for both DigiYatra (India's digital biometric boarding system) users and non-DigiYatra passengers. The increased number of gates ensures a smoother and quicker entry process for everyone. According to the spokesperson, the Digital Gateway at T2 now provides for 28 dedicated DigiYatra egates alongside 28 dedicated non-DigiYatra e-gates. Similarly, Terminal 1 (T1) features 6 dedicated DigiYatra e-gates and 6 non-DigiYatra e-gates. Additionally, an additional 118 e-gates are being deployed at the pre-embarkation security check area at T2 to ease movement of passengers.
